La demoiselle d’Avignon

La demoiselle d’Avignon

huile sur toile, 100×100 cm

An académie, in art, refers to a posed nude. This academy — let’s call her Joséphine — is quite surprised to find herself transformed into a painting… Joséphine is French, born in Avignon to parents of Senegalese and Gambian origin. She completed her secondary education there, then pursued higher studies in Economic Science in Aix-en-Provence before becoming a journalist and influencer in the world of women’s fashion. If she agreed to pose, it’s because she shares with many painters a passionate interest in the writings of Edouard Glissant and his notions of mondialité (worldliness) and créolisation (creolization).
