Ancient Paintings: Portrait of the Artist as Lucien de Rubempré (1978)
huile sur carton, 100×60 cm
I was 20 years old, and with contemporary art, the question of what is art or not took precedence over the artistic process. I repressed my passion for painting (without success, as will be seen through other old paintings) to devote myself to philosophy.
Today, I know that the question of the meaning of art is a morbid, nihilistic question. The only truly relevant question that constitutes art is the meaning of the artwork as answer.
